I never in my 66 years can remember a summer like this. It has been so incredibly hot and the earth is so dry that it's cracking. My yard is brown and I'm watering continually. It makes me lazy with no ambition. I'm so non-productive and this could be the perfect time to make some fall things (Fall Open House is just a few weeks away). Oh, well, I've taken time to read and it does take so much time just watering.
Judy and I did take a little trip yesterday and managed to get a little antiquing done. I bought a big bag of the greatest dried gourds. Also found some bowls and a few other things. Love the bowls. The larger one doesn't have a name on the bottom but has "made in USA" and a #5. The small one has a little crack but is so cute and great colors. It has what looks like PRP Co. Roseville and some numbers on the bottom. They're both perfect for fall.
There are all kinds, shapes and colors of the gourds. I waxed a few with the darker wax and they are really pretty. Most are fall colors but some are white.
Love this old bowl. I've never seen one like it. It's really early I think and just an amazing color.
My plan next week is to do some things out of wool for fall. I love doing wool applique but don't ever seem to take the time. It's hard to sell because it takes so much time to do it and it takes just the right person to be willing to pay what you have to charge. Also, wool is expensive especially if it's been dyed. Even if you can buy a piece of clothing or a throw in a resale shop, you still have to take the time to wash and sometimes dye it. Anyway, I'm giving it a try. If I don't sell it, they make nice Christmas gifts.
Hope you all have a nice weekend. Please say a prayer that we get some rain. The farmers are having such a terrible time. Peace!

Your bowls are awesome, especially with those gourds in them! Oh, I'm so sick of the heat and my husband spending his every spare minute watering....feeling like I am his wife, but his garden is the mistress :)
Can't wait to see what you do with the wool! You are so right, it takes so much time and the wool is not cheap.
Hope you get some releif soon from the HEAT, Jan. Please Rain Gods, make it RAIN!! Love the gourds and the marvelous bowl. They look wonderful together. Can't wait to walk into Leola's again in about 5 more weeks. Love the shop! Are you ready for company again?

Oh I know exactly what you mean! I've been so lethargic lately. Been knitting, and hoping to get up the gumption to start a new hooked piece for a hook-in attending in September. Usually I start getting really pumped this time of year to hook and knit for fall, but not feel'n it now! I'm working for a few weeks at school for the rest of this month and part of August. That may do the trick, and remind me why I don't do that anymore!!
Sure hope you get some rain. It's always stinking hot and dry here and never a chance for showers. Love those bowls! I remember when I was 12, friends and I had a little fort in the woods where we would cut gourds and dry them out to make bowls and such. I used to make things for craft fairs and always knew if they didn't sell, I could give them as gifts. I stopped doing craft fairs and create just for the sake of creating. Wishing you a great new week. Tammy
I am done with summer, it's so hot I can't even breathe! Rain, please come!
