Peace.....

After this last crazy year, I'm hoping this will truly be a new beginning .....a time for some peace and tranquility.  Personally, I'm tired of all the political wranglings and worrying about falling off the cliff.  It's a crazy world out there but I can't seem to do much about it and I'm tired of trying. I say that until I start thinking about my little ones and the world they're growing up in and again, I feel the need to voice my opinions.  Someone has to fight for them.

I still grieve for those families that lost little ones and bigger ones in the Connecticut shootings.  The saddest thing this weekend was seeing on the news the line of people waiting to get into a gun show.  Can we just stop for awhile and see that the happiest places to live in the world are those countries that have strict gun laws.  I went to a Walmart yesterday to shop (sorry, Judy) and walked past the gun counter.  There was a line waiting (busiest place in the store) and they all were wearing black.  I left my cart sitting and left the store and I won't go back to a Walmart......ever!

Anyway, I'm looking forward to the new year.  Lots of ideas and plans spinning about in my brain.  I'm going to continue working hard at Leola's and give more thought to my house and garden.  These two things make such a difference in my life and fill lots of idle hours.  I've always been a "hands-on" kind of person and for my own sanity, I need that.

This will be as close as I come to a new year's resolution.  Hope all of you have a wonderful, peaceful new year.

I agree wholeheartedly -- the media sure doesn't help with all the political shenanigans and only serve to get people riled up or scared and many folks seem to have lost all common sense. I wish you a new year filled with peace, health and happiness. Tammy

My hubby is a hunter, so he keeps guns - very carefully and responsibly in a gun safe. I have never shot a gun and don't really care too-- unless someone was breaking into my house! I have no doubt I could use one to defend myself and family, although I would be shaking in my shoes! I abhor the gun violence in this country. Americans have had guns for hundreds of years so WHAT has changed? I want my grandchildren to be safe! I have worked in schools for the past 15 years and in the high school I worked at the last 4 years, our security guards were armed. They did have to break up fights, but never needed to use their guns. Some of our young people seem to be growing up detached and have an unhealthy interest in violent video games--I'm thinking of the Colorado movie shooter and the Newtown murderer--(I refuse to use their names). That seems to be a common denominator, so perhaps that is where we need to put more focus. I do think there needs to be some sort of regulation of owning guns, but I would not want guns confiscated. I'm just too leary of believing government is benevolent. Switzerland is probably the most peaceful country in the world and has highest rate of gun ownership and lowest crime rate--so I'm wondering how that works! One thing I do think is that our media is terrible at exploiting heinous crimes. I don't have the answer but am praying that something changes for good!
