The light at the end of the tunnel.....

My house is now hooked up to city sewer.  What a mess!  No wonder it was so dang expensive....it was a lot of work and a lot of equipment being used.  This was the first day.....

 

 

They had to take my back chain link fence down and dig in the backyard.  I feel so bad about messing up the neighbor's yard but the city said it had a right-of-way and there was no other way.  Couldn't believe how deep they had to go.

 

They laid the pipes in yesterday and put the pump in the old septic.  Then the electrician came, hooked it up and put a big ole electrical box on the back of the house.  The city came and inspected it today and two  people came out tonight with backhoes to fill it in and smooth it out.....sort of!!!

 

 

 

 

 

The yard is a mess including the side yard where they made a thousand trips up and down.  I'll have to hire someone to come in to help.  Too big of a job to do myself.  What a headache this has been but I figure it's done now and I can, hopefully, get on with selling my house.

 

I've been able to get a few things ready for Leola's.  This lamp is so wonderful.  It's a vintage cowboy doll.  I had to rewire and do a little gluing but it is adorable.  Also made some lavender-filled bags for drawers or whatever.....I love mine in my heating pad at night....so soothing!

 

I've decided to take some of my ironstone to sell.  I love it but just have too much.

My neighbor has made me these wonderful peg racks out of old wood.....

 

Today I am planning a day off.  I'm going with sister Judy and her granddaughter to Crystal Bridges Art Museum in Bentonville, Arkansas.  It's the gallery that was built by one of the Walton's of Walmart fame and by all accounts is amazing.  I seriously need a day off.

Rain, rain go away.....

I know I shouldn't complain but I'm so tired of this.  Let's get on with summer.....

 

It's certainly making for some beautiful flowers.

 

And in case anyone is interested....here's the latest chapter of my saga.  I got an estimate for all the work that has to be done to get the house hooked up to city sewer.  YIKES!!!!  Not an inexpensive project!  Had to go yesterday and get the paperwork done at the city water department and pay the almost $1000 for that.  Next on the agenda is to get started on the actual work and with all the rain, they'll wait to start it next week.  Then they start digging up the back yard.

 

I'm trying to concentrate on getting things cleaned out and packed.  With all the rain, I'm constantly pulling weeds and trying to keep the yard looking good.  The garden is going crazy.

 

Hope everyone is making it through this crazy weather we're having.  Looks like if we can make it through the tropical storm this week then we'll be rewarded with lots of sun and warm temps for awhile.  It's about time!!!!

 



Beautiful day in my neighborhood.....

It's a perfect day in the Ozarks.....sunny & 80 by the afternoon.  Due to the regular rains, everything is looking lush and the garden is going crazy.

 Love this little girl statue that sits in my flowers.

Worked so hard yesterday in this small garden space.  The weeds had taken over.  Luckily, it was a beautiful day and I didn't mind being outside.  Have to say I slept all night without waking once.....gardening is so good for me, in so many ways!

Been digging some garlic and hanging it in the shed to dry out.  I think I could live quite well if I just had garlic, tomatoes & basil in my garden.

 The lavender is just ready to bloom.  A shorter type that I planted has already bloomed.

 Love this big birdcage that sits on my backporch.

Went to the farmer's market this morning and bought breakfast.....

It's the last of the strawberries but I managed to make a lg. batch of jelly and froze about 6 quarts.  There's just nothing like home grown strawberries.  The tomatoes and squash will be dinner.

I love this time of year.

It's getting there......

I know, I have been MIA.  Besides having a sinus/cold thingy (technical term), I've worked like crazy trying to get the weeds from the garden before they become large, out of control weeds.  I sold my tiller because it was too hard to manage so it's having to be done my hand.  There seem to be a lot of gardeners who think the no-till method of gardening is the best.  You don't stir up all those weed seeds buried deep in your dirt.  Anyway, it's just waiting now.....

I have a few onions that have come back from last fall and that green in the back is mint that I use in my tea and mojitoes.  We're having a cool couple of days and then it's warming again (hopefully, for good).

I love arugula and especially love how easy it is to grow.  It just keeps coming back.  These are plants left from last year.

The chives and lavender plants are looking so good.  Thinkin' I might make a baked potato for dinner and sprinkle with these tender, mild chives.

Yesterday I cleaned out the hostas and after raining last night, I swear they grew 2".

 

 

So proud of my tomato starts.  They finally have 4 leaves (on some).  They just take a long time to grow but they're looking strong.

 



If you look close, you're see the shiny little basil leaves coming on.

Finally had an auction to attend on Saturday.  It's been a long spell since I've found an auction to attend.  It's really hard to find early primitives in this part of the country but look what I found......

These are wonderful, early prim baskets.  Don't know if I can bare to sell them.

Great old crock with bale and lid.....

I have 3 of the early herb shelves but this is the largest one so far.  She's a beauty!

Also found some great old ticking feather pillows and an ironstone slop jar.  I think that's what it is but it doesn't have a bale so not certain.  Anyway, it would be wonderful for lots of uses.  I'll wash it well before I take it to Leola's.

House for sale.....

Yep -- I'm going to do it.  I'm selling my house.  I've lived here 28 years and change is what I'm needing.  It will officially go on the market right after Memorial weekend so if you know anyone who's interested, it's still not listed.  It was so pretty in the backyard this morning and I wanted to cut flowers for Leola's so here are some pictures.

This is my huge sage plant.  I put it in the year my Sage was born.  Maybe I can take a start of of it.



Can you believe I found 4 - 4-leaf clovers in my backyard this morning.  Think this is going to be a really good day for me.  Thought I'd take one to sister Judy for her birthday (it's today).

We're getting ready for our "celebrate outdoor spaces" at Leola's this weekend so have to go paint some more.  If you're near Ozark this weekend, you should stop in.  It's going to be amazing.  We've even redone our porch.

My maiden voyage!

This is my first time to post on my blog. I've spent so many hours checking out all the wonderful blogs that I decided to plunge in with the help of my good friend Katie (Ragamuffin gal). It was decided to start with my back yard because it's such an important place for me & my family. As you can see it's very green right now due to the many "gullywashers" we've had. My garden is also progressing nicely -- yea!!!! We may be living off those vegies this summer with the price of gas.

I'm trying to get things made for the shop. I'm in (Leola's Vintage Home & Garden). We're having a big open house this weekend to celebrate my sisters, niece, & my taking over the shop almost 3 months ago. It was previously the Seedbox & we had our individual shops in it for almost a year but now it's ours. It's ours & several other ladies who share our passion for the previously used (both antique & vintage) & useing our individual tastes to create all kinds of wonderful things. I love to sew so you will be seeing some of the things I make in my little sewing/computer room. Wish me luck!!!
