We had the best day. We were off to purchase our heirloom seeds at Bakersville and it was one of those perfect days for a roadtrip. If you don't know about Bakersville Heirloom Seeds, it's located about 40 miles from Springfield near Mansfield. A young man who grew up in Mansfield started collecting heirloom seeds years ago when he was just a teenager. He had always gardened with his parents and grandparents and loved it and decided he didn't want to plant the genetically altered seeds. He's now 28 yrs. old, married, has a child & they just opened a new store in Petaluma CA. They've traveled all over the world and are now publishing the Heirloom Gardener magazine and have the most amazing catalogue I've ever seen.
This is just such a fun little village and everyone who works there is so nice. It's like an escape from the real world.
We ate lunch in their little restaurant which offered one entree. Today was cheese enchiladas. I think it must be vegetarian. Anyway, you don't get a ticket -- you just leave a donation at the door. Isn't that incredible! The food was really good.
Now I have to do the real work and get the weeds out of my garden. Trenton, Kenda's son, is coming on Friday to help me. He's the best help. Can't wait to get those seeds in the ground.

What a wonderful lil' village...I plant heirloom and organic seeds when I can get them too...
I slept with the bedroom window open last night...FINALLY...boy, we've waited a long time for this...I'm goin' to hang out the sheets and quilts...see ya, busy with that Spring stuff!!!
Hi Jan! Love your post.....we went by there some time back, and they weren't open, so musy try again. Isn't this weather wonderful?! We have a noisy night with toads singing all over the place, but just love (as I see Sharon does) sleeping with windows wide open. Hope to see you soon......
Hi Jan, I do hope things are picking up in this business, but you just never know what to expect. We are all hopeful for a great year in this biz.
