On Sunday I went out to the backyard and dug some vegetation to make a terrarium. OK, Judy said I could purchase one of hers but this big jar was just waiting to be used for this. It's amazing what has already happened in the jar and I find myself checking on it way too frequently.
Yesterday was my work day at Leola's and the women had brought in some amazing pieces. They work so hard to make this a success and to actually do this for a living. We have so many people who appreciate our creativity but don't realize that if you just tell us how inspiring we are without sometimes purchasing an item, it's hard to pay the rent. Just remember that when you buy from small businesses like Leola's, it goes right back into the community. Everyone of these women take their check out into their neighborhoods and buy their groceries, eat at restaurants, shop with other dealers, buy their children's clothes (& their own), pay for lessons, shop at their local True Value, get haircuts, buy insurance and a million other things. Pay attention to who your customer is and try to shop with them and do a little payback. My hairdresser has never been in my shop and I'm giving that some serious thought. I've been going to her for almost 20 yrs. Loyalty means a great deal to me.

I love these single swings. I'm thinkin' I'll put one in my big tree in the backyard. Aren't they wonderful?

If I could have one shelf in Leola's to peddle my hoarded finds and garage sale treasures, I'd think I'd died and gone to heaven.
I can't think of a time I've left the store empty handed. And I don't consider Leola's purchased as "hoarded" because those items are prominently displayed in my house somewhere.
I love Leola's, but more so, the lovely Jan, who I idolize in so many ways.

Your feelings are exactly why I go to other shops and try to support them~~after all my family gets tired of things from my shop:) And I enjoy adding treasures to my home from other shops--you all do work very hard and you have made me think~ my hair dresser has been only once and yet others support me often--maybe I need to rethink also

Well I personally can't come in without spending something, It is such a treat to shop there . And if I had more money I could go crazy. I still want to move in and live there.
Adore your little terrarium! Are those little violets? Did you just dig them up outside? We have gobs of violets coming up now. Sheri from Shabby Sheep has the most darling miniature garden in her house. It's got all kinds of little stuff with a tiny arbor and cute plants. It's also got a pump so she's got a little waterfall. She built it all herself. Love everything at the shop... and I will get down there soon. Every day seems packed all of a sudden!

Yes and Yes we must support our local shops. I love shopping locally ..I find the best "Junk"! I get so inspired as I go to other shops, when I get the chance to buy something I treasue it and find that special place in my home for it. Love Leola's only wish I had more time to come visit. You are right about buying from the little guys...it does help the economy since we turn around and spend it near home also. I wish I had $1.00 for everytime someone picked up an item I was selling (and was very reasonable) and told me how nice it was and that I do good work...compliments are nice but they don't pay the bills...I am not a quitter though and for some reason I just keep on trying :)

I like the one you made a lot! Mom does have some really cool terrarium's at Leola's though.
I always buy something when I'm there and its so frustrating because I have to ship it home now that I'm in California.
